The cake that changed everything!

Change you ask? What change...................well.. check out this super cute cake I made for a lucky brother and sister

The request for this cake was made over the phone...birthday cake with a peter pan/tinkerbell theme for a brother and sister combined birthday party. Ok no problem!!... I will think this out and have a great cake ready for pick up on the date requested.

This is my normal procedure.....NO DEPOSIT, pay with cash or credit card on pick up, if you need to cancel the order please do so 72 hours in advance. (not to much to ask)

Well guess what........15 minutes before closing I call the lady to remind her of my closing time and this is what I get....

"Oh   ahhh I cancelled the order I talked to your daughter"....(my daughter is 6......she doesn't answer the phone) "Oh  ahhh I left the message on your answering machine.....long pause"(Yeah Right!!)

So needless to say I got stiffed by this inconsiderate, doesn't have a flippin clue......B#$%H!!!!!

I will take part of the blame thou............I didn't request a deposit from a woman that never ordered from me before.....Stupid Stupid Me! "Fool me once ,shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me!"

So here's the deal........If you have never orderd from me before expect to pay  50% of the price of your cake up front, which will be nonrefundable if you cancel on me after the 72 hour deadline.

Anyone that knows me, understands that I'm verrrry easy going........it's not as much about the money I'm out, but the time lost/wasted on someone that doesn't give a SHIT!!! Because seriously..... if the cake isn't that important, I'am NOT the person to come too.........go to PUBLIX!!

OK.............I feel much better after this long rant!!

Here's the cake STATS: Butter vanilla cake filled with fresh strawberries. Carved into the shape of an open book. Covered in fondant, the pages were hand painted by my wonderful Debbie........which took her 2 1/2 hours to paint because she's so hard on herself(I swear she doesn't know how truly BRILLANT she is) 3D effects made and placed on by me.

 Hours spent on cake.......4 1/2

Price of cake...........Hell... lets just face it... I'm in the double negative on this one!!

Look on client's face when she picked it up................OH thats right.......dahhh! She did'nt pick it up!!... it sat in my cooler for 2 weeks because I didn't have the heart to throw it away........ until today........rest in peace!

This is it.......Jessica and Donnie's wedding cake, they were the lucky winners of my open house wedding cake give away!!

I loved this cake!! It was so COOL!! Jessica and Donnie brought me a few ideas of what they liked and told me to go "wild"! (their reception was at the Brevard Zoo)Yeah!! I love it when I get to go outside the box..........

Debbie and I had a "pow wow" and she sketched up a few designs and this is what they picked. Of course then it was up to me to make it come to life................

The bottom tier is a cool giraffe print, giraffe spots are cut fondant using custom made cutters, a little paint smear in between  the spots for color. Hand made sugar bambo border. The cake it's self is my "Holy Cow" cheesecake (white wedding cake with chocolate ganache, and raspberry swirl cheesecake)YUM!!!!

Next tier is a cool Zebra mane print, Debbie painted the stripes on for me. The cake is chocolate, chocolate.

Next tier is their last name spelled out in sugar bambo. Cake is chocolate, chocolate.

Top tier is hand painted cheetah spots (Debbie), chocolate, chocolate. Topped of with fresh flowers and raffia bows!

A Tale of Two Babies! (an epic)

If at First you Don't Succeed.....try,try.....stop, you know how the rest goes.

The phone rings........"Good afternoon Something Sweet"

"Yes i would like to order a baby shower cake"

"OK is it for a boy or a girl?"

                                "Girl"

"Would you like something girly, frilly, pink, bows...ect?

"No, i would like a 3D"realistic as possible" baby cake, and could you make it Red Velvet cake?"

( at this point I think someone is screwing with me)

"Ok..........Ma'am you know this just ain't "right"?'"Who is this for?"

"The cake is for me......... my sister is throwing me the shower, so I'm bringing the cake"

(although my first reaction was WTF, the rest of me was sreaming "Hell Yes I'll do it!!")

Now I warned Katrina that I have never done anything like this before so I wasn't sure how it would turn out, but she was OK with that, (she checked out my site before calling) so I took on the CHALLENGE.......not actually realizing what a CHALLENGE it would be.

Baby cake #1 (does that mean there is more than 1) unfortunately YES! OK I made some red velvet cake, carved it up into a baby shape, and proceeded to sculpt it's face. After 6 hours of messing with this cake I began to wonder "Why in the HELL did I take this order!!!!"............mean while my husband shows up at the shop, walks in and started laughing so hard he practically PEED on himself!! And then proceeded to tell me......"Your not seriously giving this cake to the lady are you?" So i looked at him, took a step back away from the cake, looked at it....really looked at it and busted out laughing!!! O 'CRAP its realllly bad!!!!

The more i messed with that baby's head the bigger it got! (We all know babys have big heads.......right?) so my husband Shawn is like "Make another baby"...........it's 9:00 at night at this point.......SHITTTTT!!

Shawn tells me to throw Baby #1 away (get rid of the evidence)..............but seriously folks it's so funny I couldn't..........so thats why I'm sharing my story/ CAKE WRECK!

WARNING: photo may cause blindness, spontaneous laughter, or just pure disgust

Random thought of Baby#1: Benjamin Button, Chucky, Inbreed Shrek, Troll, Bad Tim Conway skit,

" A baby only a mother could love" " Imagine passing that head thru your VA-JAY-JAY!!"

OK OK................."5 hours, 2 boxes of rice crispie treats, 2 Aleve, more red velvet cake, and a lesson in how a baby's face should appear" later..........and a husband that wouldn't let me TOUCH Baby#2's head ...............................this is what Katrina ended up with............

Hours spent on cake..............too many to count at this point!

Price of cake..................$1,000,000!! (ya want one)

Look on clients face when she picked it up.......................PRICELESS!!!!

Thanks Katrina for having such a "morbid "sense of humor!!

Baby#2"s cake facts: Head /rice crispies(hand molded by Shawn)Body: red velvet cake, arms, legs, clothes and blankets are fondant done by me, Debbie painted the color on her face, and Photos by Sharlene http://www.photoartworks.us/

Meet Archie!!!

I was lucky enough to do a fabulous couple's wedding cake on Tuesday, Brenda and Jason.

Not only do they have great taste, they have a great since of humor..........thus Archie was born!!

As the story goes............after a night of "partying" Jason came home to a dark porch, while fumbling for his keys, he heard something...and low and behold there was an armadillo on his porch trying to ATTACK him............and apparently has scared him for life!................Ok ,we all know armadillos don't attack people, but after one too many shots of Crown anything is possible!!!!

for more great shots check out http://www.photoartworks.us/

Sharlene ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cake Stats: Red Velvet cake (of course) his head and tail are rice crispie treats. It took me about an hour to carve his body and shape his head and tail, and 2 1/2 hours to put his detail on (scales and bands)..... pain staking process....then the fabulous Debbie got a hold of him and made him come to life with some paint...(2 hours) Once he was born I named him.....Archie.........AWWWW I didn't want to let him goooooo.............Ok maybe I did with this one.......he was creepy, to realistic!!

I have a double WHAMMY this week!! I fell in love with two cakes...AHHHHH the time and love that went into these babies......and now they are in someone's belly.

Cake #1: Here Kitty, Kitty

This little Kitty was a BIG project!! The Florida Institute of Technology commisioned me to make their 50th anniversary cake. I was so excited (scared)about this one.......why you ask?........because they wanted a black panther...... but since I'm always up for a challenge I took it on!

So here he is.........yes I was in love with him, heck I think I even heard him purrrrrrrr..OK maybe that was me when I was all done.

Your probally wondering whats up with the coins........well F.I.T.'s first donation 50 years ago was 37 cents, so its pretty symbolic to the school.

Cake Stats: The overall display was 33 inches long by 24 inches wide.

The cat weighed in at about 35 lbs. He is all cake with the exception of his head (rice crispies) Yummy orange # cake(6 recipes) brushed in orange liquor, filled w/chocolate ganache(1lb) and buttercream(4 recipes). Then I wrapped him in 15lbs of chocolate fondant. The coins are styrofoam discs wrapped in fondant. (His whiskers are 50lb test fishing line) The O SO TALENTED Debbie painted him black for me(coins also). He took a total of 3 days to complete (and yes he was still YUMMY)

Special thanks to Sharlene from http://www.photoartworks.us/ for taking these rockin' pictures!

Cake #2: OOOOOOOOO WHAT A BASS!!

Isn't he a Trophy!!  22 inches long...nice and fat....ready for the frying pan!! Harry is a lucky man to get a cake like this for his birthday!!

Cake stats: 22 inches long 12 inches wide. Wooden plaque is a one layer southern pound cake w/ butter cream and covered with chocolate  fondant. The Bass is orange pound cake brushed with orange liquor, filled with chocolate ganache and butter cream and covered in fondant. (His head and tail are rice crispie treats)

It took me 2 hours to carve and sculpt him.  Then the "INCREDIBLE DEBBIE" hand painted this bad boy and brought him to life!! (1 1/2 hrs)

OOOOOOOOH I am the luckiest girl.... because the incredibly talented Sharlene from http://www.photoartworks.us/ was kind enough to snap a few awesome pictures for me!! YEAH!!

I would like to mention.... I LOVE it when a customer of mine does a little jiggle, a little shake.........a little dance when they see their cake....sometimes thats way better then the almighty greenback!!

This week's Spot-Light is "A cat with a HAT"

Little Gavin is a lucky boy to get a cake like this for his 1st birthday! OK here's the deal.....I went a little overboard  working on this cake. It broke my heart to see him go........(YES... I am a cake KOOK!!)

This week's Spot-Light is "Something Old is New Again"

Amy wanted to replicate her parents orignal wedding cake for their 50th Anniversary party.

This can pose a problem for me since "vintage" cake decorating is not my speciality..........but with that being said I was up for the challenge!

FYI about the cake....There are 3-7 inch round cakes supporting a two teired (10in,6in) cake. The cakes are dark chocolate raspberry and lemon mousse. Frosted in buttercream frosting. Fresh flower topper with gumpaste gold roses.

OK! OK! so my version  didn't exactly look like the orignal

July 27,2008

This week's spot-light is on the CUTEST set of twins.......Lukas & Noah!! (Of course every time they come into my shop I make them cry! )They haven't realized I'm the "COOKIE LADY" yet.........give them time!!

This past weekend they celebrated their 1st birthday!! Momma Jenn did a carnival theme party and wanted a box of popcorn with a couple of "Carnies"  to go with it. So this is what I came up with...

FYI about the cake......... the cake is one layer chocolate ,one layer vanilla frosted in yummy chocolate buttercream. I covered it in Satin Ice fondant and made the popcorn out of marshmellows. The "Carnies" are hand-sculpted out of gumpaste. 11x14x3 1/2 in size. Serves 40-50 depending on how generous Jennifer is!!
